Sean Fee was born and raised in Florida, and has traveled extensively throughout the state of Florida attending and performing at shows. After visiting NYC and LA he has returned to Florida and performs regularly throughout the Tampa Bay area. The Early Days: He was watching TV one day when he flipped it to MTV and caught the music video for Daft Punk’s “Da Funk”. He also caught a couple episodes of Amp, and he discovered artists like Death in Vegas, Cold Cuts, and Sonic Empire. This ignited his love affair with electronic music, and he wanted more. He started going to local music stores (in his hometown of Titusville) and asking around, trying to find more of what he had heard on TV. One of the first purchases he made was a double disc set called Digital Empire. It had different kinds of electronic music, what he knows now as house, breaks, ambient, drum ‘n’ bass. It introduced him to artists like Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin, Prodigy, Goldie, BT, Curtis Mantronic. At his point he knew electronic music as songs, not mixes of other artists. One day he was heading to a concert to sell some tickets he won off the radio. He and a friend got stuck in a traffic jam, completely lost, and ended up making a complete stop right in front of a a shop called Vinyl Frontier. They weren’t going anywhere else, so they decided to go in and check it out. He went in and talked to some people, found out that what he had been listening to was breakbeat, or straightbeat, and as it happens, Florida is the home of breaks. He picked out 3 CDs, Baby Anne, Rick West, and Huda Hudia. These CDs introduced him to continuous mix DJing. His coworkers from his job, he discovered, were also into electronic music. When he was 16 he was going to clubs, with his group. He went to the Compressions party in Orlando and saw Eros, Keoki, and Soul Raze. Daytona led him to Funk Lab, and shortly after that he was driving himself around different parts of Florida like Melbourne and Cocoa Beach to the Storm Club. When he was 17 he saw Baby Anne and Wutam play together at Cyberzone. Around this time he was listening to a lot of electro, like Jekyll and Hyde. When he turned 18 he had enough money to buy some turntables, so he went back to where he got his start—Vinyl Frontier. He got two turntables and a mixer, and had his own place, where he and his friend would have theme nights, like hip hop, or alternative and just play music all night. They were always on the look out for the next blow up song. From Titusville he moved to Tampa for a few months, and then moved to Orlando, where his musical career started to take off. The Start: His roommate was making music on his computer, and Sean was spinning it, promoting it at a weekly event at a club called Fusion. He and his friend Ryan (Kounterakt) started going out and meeting promoters, promoting for the promoters, and promoting themselves and booking shows. After one club promised him for a month that he would get a chance to play on stage, he headed to another club called AKA lounge, where he got to play. He was introduced to Vision One Entertainment, who he started promoting for and while doing that he promoted himself. He played at Fusion, Screamers, and got to open up for Control Z, Breakfastaz, J Break, Wutam, Kounterakt, ATF, Ghost in the Machine, Rob Analyze, Viro, Beat Mavericks, and Curtis B. After that, he realized how much control he really had over his musical career and how he could get shows. He wanted to try his luck in LA, so he moved to Tampa, worked and saved for his trip, and while he was there he played regularly at a club in Ybor City called The Rare Olive, opening up for his friend M.E.E.K.O. Now: He moved on to LA, where he saw many of his fellow Florida artists playing in the clubs out in California, and it put things in perspective. He saw people like J Break, and Wutam. In February he returned to Florida, where he has regular shows throughout the Tampa Bay. Sean is also part of a DJ dou named “Dualizm.” Dualizm is also known as Sean Fee and K.C.L. When performing together, Sean and K.C.L. excite the crowd with their Nu-skool Breaks & House tagteam sets. Be on the look out for Dualizm this summer!
